Turkey ups pressure on Switzerland to return wanted expats

Turkey is putting increasing pressure on the Swiss authorities to take action against social media posts that it perceives as defamatory or sympathetic to terrorist groups.

"In recent years, Switzerland has received an increasing number of requests for judicial assistance in connection with offences of defamation against the Turkish President or other Turkish politicians via social media," SWI swissinfo.ch
cited the Swiss Federal Office of Justice as saying.

Other examples of objectionable content include perceived support for the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), SWI said on Wednesday.

Switzerland has received between 20-30 requests for legal action over social media posts since the end of 2016.

However, SWI said such requests from Turkey are rejected since criticism of politicians is not forbidden in Switzerland.
