Turkey files complaint at NATO against Greece
Turkey filed a complaint with NATO after Greece allegedly harassed its jets conducting a NATO mission in the eastern Mediterranean, state-run TRT World reported on Wednesday.
Greek fighter jets put the Turkish F-16s under a radar lock during their NATO mission in the eastern Mediterranean, sources from the Turkish Defense Ministry told.
Turkey blamed Athens for risking NATO activities, state-run Anadolu Agency said citing sources.
Turkish Defense and Foreign ministries informed NATO authorities over the Greek harassment of its jets during the alliance mission.
Furthermore, the Defense Ministry summoned the Greek military attaché in Ankara.
The Turkish Foreign Ministry also made diplomatic initiatives with relevant parties regarding the issue, TRT World said.
Turkey criticizes Athens for continuously escalating tensions in the region in recent months as an attempt to undermine Turkey’s good faith efforts for peace.
Such harassment is incompatible with a NATO ally, the sources added.
Turkey is at loggerheads with Greece over territorial claims in the Mediterranean and Ankara’s drilling activities for potential hydrocarbon resources in disputed waters.
