Ecuador seizes 845 kilos of cocaine headed to Turkey
Ecuador’s police seized 845.7 kg of cocaine in a container which was filled with bananas and headed for Turkey at the Guayaquil port, Karar newspaper reported on Wednesday.
The Ecuador police claimed that the cocaine was headed to Turkey, while the country's press pointed to Mersin Port as the delivery location.
Cocaine seized is worth 50 million dollars, the police said.
Ecuador has emerged as a major source of cocaine shipments to Turkey over the past year.
In May 2021, the Panamanian authorities seized a container hiding 616 packs of cocaine on its way to a port in Turkey’s southern Mersin province from Ecuador.
In June, Turkey discovered a ton of cocaine aboard a ship arriving at Mersin from the South American country. Turkish Trade Minister Mehmet Muş said that was the largest cocaine seizure ever made by Turkey.
This year in February, Ecuador’s police seized 43.8 kg of pure cocaine in a container headed for Turkey at the Guayaquil port.
