Ecuador seizes 44 kilos of cocaine headed to Turkey

Ecuador’s police seized 43.8 kg of pure cocaine in a container headed for Turkey at the Guayaquil port, Voice of America Turkish reported.

The 44 packages of cocaine were discovered by sniffer dogs during a search of the container, which was filled with bananas, VOA Turkish said on Monday.

Ecuador has emerged as a major source of cocaine shipments to Turkey over the past year. In May, the Panamanian authorities seized a container hiding 616 packs of cocaine on its way to a port in Turkey’s southern Mersin province from Ecuador.

In June, Turkey discovered a ton of cocaine aboard a ship arriving at Mersin from the South American country. Turkish Trade Minister Mehmet Muş said that was the largest cocaine seizure ever made by Turkey.
