Germany scrutinizes Turkey’s espionage activities in Germany
Germany's domestic intelligence agency (Bundesamt für Verfassungsschutz-BfV) released a detailed report on Turkey’s espionage activities in 2021 in Germany, Deutsche Welle Turkish reported on Wednesday.
Germany's domestic intelligence agency BfV revealed in its 2021 report that Turkey was carrying out espionage activities in Germany.
Turkish intelligence and security units are carrying out activities in Germany to monitor, investigate or infiltrate into the activities of individuals of Turkish origin, Thomas Haldenwang, head of the BfV, told journalists at a press conference.
Haldenwang said that they considered a possible scenario in which the Turkish government might further increase its activities in Germany and tensions might escalate among the Turkish community in Germany before the elections that are expected to take place next year in Turkey.
“We will make an effort to prevent the conflicts in Turkey from being carried over to Germany,” Deutsche Welle cited German Interior Minister Nancy Faeser as saying.
