Ex-Happy Mondays’ manager arrested in Turkey in $108 million cocaine bust
Turkish police arrested the former tour manager of the English rock band Happy Mondays for his alleged role in a £80 million ($108 million) cocaine deal, the Daily Mail reported on Wednesday.
Police caught Anthony Murray attempting to flee his hotel in Sirkeci, a quarter in Istanbul, after he heard the 288 kilogrammes of cocaine had been seized onboard a cargo ship at the nearby Ambarlı port, the Daily Mail said.
Security sources cited by Turkish media said Murray was at the management level of the organisation behind the haul, the British newspaper reported.
Fourteen other suspects were detained in relation to the shipment, which was hidden in 3,500 bags of fertiliser sailing from Colombia, the Daily Mail said.
Murray, who Turkish authorities described as a “British drugs baron”, was previously jailed in 2014 for three years over a 29 kg cannabis deal, the Daily Mail said.
