Colombia seizes Turkey-bound cocaine worth $265 million

Colombian police have seized 5 tonnes of cocaine worth $265 million headed for Turkey, the country’s defence minister announced on Tuesday.

The cocaine was found in two shipping containers in the southwestern port of Buenaventura, Colombian Defence Minister Carlos Holmes Trujillo said on Twitter.

The drug bust is Colombia’s largest since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic, German broadcaster Deutsche Welle reported.

Colombian police have seized about 180 tonnes of cocaine in the first five months of this year, an 8 percent increase from the same period in 2019.
